Are Packages a Cheaper Holiday?

Are Packages a Cheaper Holiday?

When you are trying to discover a cheap holiday for you and your family, there are a few things you should know. We have all gotten in the trap one time or another when trying to get a vacation set up. Either we have paid more because of the travel agent we dealt with, or we thought a certain deal was better than another option. Since there are traps in finding vacations it is important to search correctly. Below we have a few tips to answer the question ‘are packages a cheaper holiday.’

To determine the answer to our question you do need to compare packages through online websites and travel agents.

You also need to compare packages and non package options.

A package can include a couple of things:

Airline tickets

Hotel

Rental car

Meals

Tickets or reservations to events, museums, or other specials

Diving

Skiing

Golfing

The packages you will find on places such as Travelocity.com or Priceline.com are going to be air, hotel, and car. Occasionally the site might have an all inclusive package with meals. A travel agent is going to be able to set up the perfect package deal with any of the above listed included in the price.

You can also try to get everything set up on an individual basis by calling each company and determining their prices for the time in question. What you will normally find is that a package is cheaper from a travel agent if you want everything included. The reason for this is the tax.

You will pay only one tax on the entire package and everything will be set. If you book separately you are paying tax on everything. Tax on hotels is normally ten percent, which means you could end up paying 10 to 40 pounds in tax when you book separately.

On the other hand, when you book separately you might discover some special that couldn’t be offered through a package deal. This special may save you more than the entire package.

It is hard to really answer if a package is going to be a cheaper deal until you have actually compared notes. With a package through a travel agent you have bargaining power that you don’t have booking through a discount website. Therefore it is better to try for the bargaining power over all else.
